General Tips on How to Prevent Invasive Plants Where You Live, Work, and Play:

  • Learn how to identify the invasive plants that are in your area.
  • Be certain that seeds are not stuck to your clothes or gear.
  • At entrances to natural areas, use mechanical devices like the bootbrush pictured, to remove seeds and other plant material from your shoes.

  • Do not camp or travel through areas infested with invasive plants
  • Clean dirt and mud off of your vehicle, pets, and boots before going onto public lands.
  • Drive only on established roads and hike on designated trails.
  • Do not plant invasive species on your land. Find native or non-invasive alternative species.
  • Ask your nursery to stock and sell native plant species only.
  • Volunteer to help inventory or control invasive plants.
  • Tell your friends and family about the problem of invasive plants.

Visit Midwest Invasive Plant Network's Links and Early Detection/Rapid Response sections for more information on invasive plants in our area.
